Viano Marie Heikkinen
May 18, 1906 — August 17, 2003
Viano Marie Heikkinen, 97, of Gristmill Road, Baraga, died Sunday morning at Bayside Village in L'Anse.
She was born on May 18, 1906 in National Mine, a daughter of the late Erick and Josephine (Kujanpaa) Kangas. On June 9, 1930 she married Ernest Heikkinen in Ishpeming and he preceded her in death in 1976.
Viano was an active member of the Mission United Lutheran Church in Pelkie and the Pelkie Historical Society.
She is survived by her children, Genevieve Hocking and Wayne (Sylvia) Heikkinen of Baraga; grandchildren, Nan, Melissa, Sean and Leah Hocking, Debbie Pucci, Dawn Bartley and Paula Carpenter; twelve great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha and two brothers, Ray and John Kangas.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2003 from 6 until 8 p.m. in the Mission United Lutheran Church in Pelkie and on Thursday from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. in the church. Pastor Michael Laakko will be officiating. Interment will take place in the Pelkie Cemetery.
