Viena Kauranen, age 91 of Watton, MI passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit.
She was born February 16, 1916 in Watton, daughter of the late Jacob and Susanna (Ketola) Korpi. Viena married Jalmer on July 30, 1938 in Ishpeming. He preceded her in death on December 20, 1980. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Covington, the church Women's League and church choir. Viena enjoyed both vegetable and flower gardening, knitting and loved her cows and life on the farm.
Surviving are three sons Melvin (Carol) Kauranen of Covington, Rudolph (Elizabeth) Kauranen of Watton, David (Karen) Kauranen of Watton; three daughters Gloria (Donald) Baril of L'Anse, Elsa (Albert "Bud") Clement of L'Anse, Elizabeth (Ralph) Bischof of Watton; 16 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are her parents; four brothers Ero, Hugo, Arne, and Eino Korpi; two sisters Lillian Friberg and Sadie Smith; and one grandson Donald Baril and one great grandson, Jason Lindemann.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 17, 2008 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Jacobson Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Monday, February 18, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Covington with visitation one hour prior to service. Pastor Mark Reinsch will officiate. Burial will be in the Covington Cemetery in the spring.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church.
