Viola Laura Elina Maki, 84, of Baraga, died Wednesday morning, December 15, 2004 at Bayside Village in L'Anse.
Viola was born June 3, 1920, in Pelkie, Michigan, a daughter of the late Joyle and Reta Kemppainen and was a lifelong area resident. On November 15, 1946 she married Eugene Maki in Detroit and he preceded her in death on June 13, 2000.
Viola was a WWII veteran, having served as a surgical technician in the army.
She was a graduate of Baraga High School and a member of the Pelkie Gospel Hall. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School, gardening, singing and entertaining friends at her home.
Viola is survived by a son, Melvin Maki of Houghton; daughters, Carol (John) Seppanen of L'Anse, Mary Nesselroad of Pelkie and friend, Tom Spradlin of L'Anse; and Elizabeth Maki; grandchildren, Kevin Nesselroad, Kristy Clish and Julie Petosky; and 3 great-grandchildren. Her husband, grandson, Donald Nesselroad and 5 brothers preceded her in death.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 17, 2004 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Jacobson Funeral Home. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, December 18, 2004 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment in the Pelkie Cemetery is scheduled for the spring.
