Wesley H. Kemppainen, age 92 of Alston, MI passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at his home with his family by his side.
Wesley was born June 8, 1924 in Laird Twp, MI son of Henry and Anna Kemppainen. He attended Giddings and Laird Schools. Wesley worked as a logger for many years and then for White Pine Mine for 27 years, retiring in 1985. He married the former Eileen Theresa Cadeau on November 19, 1949 in Baraga.
He was a member of St Ann Church and Laird Volunteer Fire Dept. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and four wheeling.
Surviving are his children, Jean (Ron) Niemisto of Pelkie, MI, Alan (Lois) Kemppainen of Alston, MI, Lynn (Mike) Maki of Bloomington, MN, Julie (Dennis) Velmer of Alston, Robert (Charlene) Kemppainen of Alston, Pat (Terry) Spencer of Alston, Jackie (Rick) Devine of Elko, MN; grandchildren, Carolyn J Paavo, Aaron R. Niemisto, Teri (Jason) McKean, Jennifer (Joel) Shaw, Eric (Amy) Kemppainen, Gary Kemppainen, Michael (Karra) Maki, Aimee (Joe) Roberts, Becki Alexander, Brenda (Mike) Boehm, Stacy (Dan) Rosseau, LeAnna (Tyler) Miller, Melissa Velmer (Buddy Davis),Kyle (Jennifer) Kemppainen, Jessica (Alex) Elsenheimer, Ryan (Andrea) Spencer, Jordan Spencer (Jourdan Whitman) Jared (Courtney) Spencer, Whitney Devine (Nick Peters), Nicole Devine (Sam Scheffler), Emily Devine, Robert Devine; great grandchildren, Hilary Paavo, Kaitlyn Shepard, Ellie McKean, Rhianna McKean, Hazel McKean, Wren McKean, Grace Shaw, Jacob Shaw, Nathan Shaw, McKayla Kemppainen, Connor Kemppainen, Grant Kemppainen, Leah Maki, Kyla Maki, Preston Roberts, Paige Roberts, Piper Roberts, Wesley Alexander, Samual Boehm, Elizabeth Boehm, Hayden Rosseau, Annalise Rosseau, Weston Kemppainen, Wesley Spencer, Raegan Spencer; sister Elsie Cadeau of Baraga; sister-in-law Phyllis Kemppainen of Mesick, MI, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding him in death are an infant daughter Lisa; parents; wife Eileen; brothers, Reino, Leo and Kenneth Kemppainen, sisters, Hazel Hulkkonen, Ethel Juntunen, and Irene Savolainen.
Private family services will be held. Burial will be in the Pelkie Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Jacobson Funeral Home.
