Wesley A. Marttila, age 77, of Covington, passed away on Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at Baraga County Memorial Hospital.
He was born December 25, 1923 in Hancock, MI, son of the late John and Aili (Rajala) Marttila. He grew up in Covington, and graduated from L'Anse High School. Wesley was in the US Army during WWII, where he was on the 20th Hospital Train in Europe. He married the former Ann Niemela on September 4, 1954, in Covington. He worked for CCI for 34 years, retiring in 1986. Wesley was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Henry Hendrickson VFW Post #8945 in Covington, and the American Legion Post #144 in L'Anse.
Survived is his wife Ann of Covington; two sons Alan (Cheryl) Marttila of Waukegan, IL, Michael (Terry) Marttila of Gurnee, IL; one daughter Julie (Pat) Presley of Gilbert, AZ; one granddaughter, Amanda Presley of Gilbert, AZ; one sister, Jane Clement of Waukegan, IL; and several cousins.
He is preceded in death by one sister Ruth Sefton.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2001, at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Covington. Rev. Mark Reinsch will officiate. Burial will be in the Covington Cemetery, with military grave side services. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family.
