Wiljo E. Johnson
May 17, 1923 — January 20, 2009
Wiljo Johnson, age 85 of Pelkie, MI passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at Shulstad's Leisure Living in Baraga where he has been residing for the past four years.
Wiljo was born on May 17, 1923, on the family farm in Pelkie, to the late Emil and Liisa (Toppari) Johnson. He graduated from Baraga High School. Wiljo worked on the family farm his entire life. He also enjoyed traveling.
Surviving are his nieces and nephew, Ruth (Dr. Charles) Waldron of Tucson, AZ, Elsa Beth (Terry) Pumala of Ironwood, Steve (Sharon) Johnson of Baraga, and Mary Ellen Johnson of Grand Rapids, MI; sister-in-laws Ruth Johnson of Baraga and Elsie Johnson of Garden City, MI; several cousins, great nieces and nephews.
Preceded him in death are his sister Lempi Johnson; brothers, Emil, Fabian, Toivo, Edward, Walter, Waino, Francis, and Arvo Johnson.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 24th at 11:00 am at the Jacobson Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Rev. Dean Franz will officiate. Burial will be in the spring in the Pelkie Cemetery. A luncheon and fellowship will follow the service in The Sharing Room at the funeral home. The Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse is assisting the family.
