William M. St. George, age 87 of L'Anse, MI passed away on Friday, November 22, 2013 at Bayside Village.

He was born September 9, 1926 in L'Anse, MI son to Mose and Agnes (LaFountain) St. George. Bill graduated from L'Anse High School in 1945; then entered the US Army during WWII. He married the former Dorothy Springsteen on May 13, 1948 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in L'Anse.

Bill ran a taxi service for a few years, then in the 1950's he and his father bought the Central Bar & CafAC.. He then worked at Bianco's Plumbing and Heating for over 25 years and then worked for Tribal Construction until retiring.

He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, KBIC, Ojibwa Seniors, and American Legion Post 144 where he was a continuous member for over 65 years.

Bill was a well-known baseball player when he was younger. He enjoyed traveling, going for coffee at the Nite Owl with his buddy Joe Bianco, and he loved animals.

Surviving are his children, Cheryl (Robert) Massie of Baraga, William J. St. George of L'Anse, Debra (James) Bennett of L'Anse, Fred (Beverly) St. George of L'Anse, Brenda (Roger) Turunen of Baraga, Michelle (Steve) Synkelma of Ironwood; grandchildren, Krissy, Denise, BJ, Mike, Philip, Danielle, Jimmy, Jesse, Tawny, Austin, Ava, John, Greg, Michelle, Jason, Brandon, Kendra; and several great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death are his parents; wife Dorothy; brothers, Maurice and Grant St. George; and sister Jean O'Brien.

Visitation will be on Monday, November 25th from 11-1:00 p.m. at Jacobson Funeral Home. Baraga Area Veterans will conduct military rites at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home under the direction of American Legion Post 444. A funeral mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church with Fr. Corey Litzner officiating. Burial will be in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
