William "Butch" Heikkinen, age 79 of Keweenaw Bay passed away on Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at Baraga County Memorial Skilled Nurse Unit.

He was born July 23, 1928 in Atlantic Mine, MI son of William and Lillian (Matero) Heikkinen. Bill graduated from Jeffers High School in 1946 and Michigan Tech in 1961 with a degree in business. Bill was in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a lumber inspector and then Foreman for Northern Hardwoods and Mead.

Bill was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Baraga. He enjoyed reading, gardening, hunting, fishing, making wood, berry picking, and dancing. He loved spending time with his kids and grandkids.

Surviving are his wife Harriet of Baraga; children David (Candice) Heikkinen of Tapiola and their children Jason, Kelly, and Christina; Craig (Sherri) Heikkinen of Fort Worth Texas and their children Cati and Hailey; Cindy Heikkinen of Lincoln, California and her children Nicole and Terrence Gerard; Sue (Jim) Wilson of Baraga and their children Christine, Jennifer, and Tim; Robert (Mary Lou) Heikkinen of Marquette and their children Louis and Hailey; Paula (Tom) Rocco of Houghton and their children Jackie and Cassie.

Preceded in death are his father William "Buppa" and mother Lillian "Kaija", son Peter, and brother Lee Roy "Doikes".

Visitation will be on Sunday from 5-7 pm at the Jacobson Funeral Home. Baraga County Area Veterans will conduct military rites at 6:30 pm under the direction of the American Legion Post 444. The funeral service will be on Monday at 11 am at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Baraga with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Rev. Ted Koehl will officiate. Internment will be in Keweenaw Bay Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family.
