Wilma Paquet, age 89, a long time resident of L'Anse, passed away on Wednesday, November 14, 2001 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital skilled nurse unit.
The daughter of the late Howard and Anna (Wilder) Wandell, she was born on March 15, 1912 in Boyne City, MI. Her family moved to Munising where she graduated from high school. She married Vernon H. Sandel in 1929 and lived in Marquette until 1938 when she divorced and moved to L'Anse where she worked for her father in the A&P store. On May 30, 1941, she married Ferdinand "Ferdy" Paquet.
Wilma was a charter member of the L'Anse Baptist Church where she became their first pianist. She taught Sunday School until age 72, and her hobby was helping people.
She is survived by a son, Vernon R. (Valerie) Sandel of Dollar Bay; two daughters, Jean L. (Russell) Rodda of San Jacinto, CA, Darlene F. Rokusek of Kenosha, WI; daughter-in-law Mary Paquet of Green Valley, AZ; two sisters, Erma Schaedig of L'Anse, Fae Mushinski of Macomb, MI; brother Arden Wandell of Palmyra, MI; eight grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ferdinand, and recently by her son Eugene Paquet of Green Valley, AZ, and three brothers Alton, Keith, and Robert Wandell.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 17, at 11:00 a.m. at the L'Anse Baptist Church. Visitation will be on Friday from 6 to 8:00 p.m. at the Jacobson Funeral Home, and Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church. Rev. Larry Saunders will officiate. Burial will be in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the L'Anse Baptist Church. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family.
