Pearl Doris Toyras, age 85 of Aura, MI passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Bayside Village in L’Anse with family at her side.
She was born March 16, 1931 in Superior, Wisconsin, daughter of Tyko and Ily (Nikkola) Sjoblom. Pearl graduated from Hancock High School and then went to NMU and received her LPN degree. She married William Nygord, in 1949, he preceded her in death; she then married Helmer Toyras on September 1, 1957, he preceded her in death Nov. 10, 2014.
Pearl was an LPN and worked at the Baraga County Memorial Hospital doing private duty nursing, she also worked at Winkler’s nursing home and a nursing home in Marquette, Mi for a time. She served as the Aura Hospital Auxiliary president, 4H leader, and volunteered in many other Aura Community Committees. She loved classical and country music. She loved listening to husband, Helmer play the “fiddle”, and had a lovely singing voice. She was a member of the Aura Lutheran Church. She and husband Helmer loved to travel and made trips out to the East coast as well as other areas after retirement.
Surviving are her sister, Roberta Morrow, Hibbing, MN, daughters, Pearl Joki, Chicago, Ill, Robin (Don) Carlisle, Aura, Mi and son Wayne (Faye) Nygord also of Aura, 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands William and Helmer; son William A Nygord;
Pearl’s funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 25th at 6:00 p.m. at the Jacobson Funeral Home with Pastor Peter Suomela officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. A luncheon will be hosted by the Aura Fire Auxiliary in The Sharing Room at the funeral home following the service. Burial will be in the Aura Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
